Upgrading the Trial Software to a Full License You can use the trial software for 120 days following installation, after which you can upgrade to the licensed version of the product. Note: Microsoft does not support upgrading from any prerelease version of SharePoint Portal Server to the released version. Uninstall any prerelease versions of SharePoint Portal Server before installing this version. Do not restore the backup image of a prerelease version to the released version. To upgrade from the trial version to the licensed version of the product: 1.. Prevent users from accessing the server during the upgrade. Users accessing the server by using the dashboard site, Web folders, or Microsoft Office during the upgrade will encounter problems. In addition, data loss can occur if a user is in the middle of an operation. Updates of the index pause automatically and resume after the server is upgraded. No user intervention is required. 2.. If you are running version 3914.3, run the Hotfix for Upgrade from the Trial Software. When upgrading from other trial software versions, a new portal folder is created within each workspace. This makes it difficult to recover any customizations made to the original portal. For more information and a workaround, see Article Q296610 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. 3.. Insert the SharePoint Portal Server installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. 4.. Click Server Installation. The SharePoint Portal Server Setup Wizard appears. You can also go to the Server folder on the CD and double-click Setup.exe. 5.. When prompted, click Repair. 6.. When the upgrade is complete, restart the server. http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/downloads/Eval2Full.asp When upgrading from the 120-day trial software of SharePoint Portal Server 2001 to the licensed version, a new portal folder is created within each workspace. This makes it difficult to recover any customizations made to the original portal. If your computer is running SharePoint Portal Server Trial Software version 3914.3, you can prevent this issue by running the script contained in the executable file on this page before upgrading. This script changes the version stamp of the portal within the workspaces to the correct version. To avoid this upgrade issue: 1.. Verify that your computer is running the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Trial Software. To do this, at the command prompt, type: regedit 2.. In the Registry Editor, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SharePoint Portal Server\, verify that: InstallType = EVAL CurrentVersion = 10.145.3914 Note: You should not run this script on other versions. 3.. On this page, click updatespsver.exe and extract updatespsver.vbs to a local folder. 4.. At the command prompt, type: cscript updatespsver.vbs 5.. Follow the usage example that appears. 6.. Insert your licensed SharePoint Portal Server installation CD into your CD-ROM drive. 7.. Select Server installation, and then select Repair. 8.. Follow the instructions that appear.
