About SharePoint sites
Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server
"v2.0" Beta 2 offers a variety of site templates based on Microsoft SharePoint
Products and Technologies and integration with Office 11 (Beta). You can use
these templates to create Web sites that take advantage of different sets of
features, allowing you to facilitate end to end collaboration across your
organization.
By default, SharePoint Portal Server
includes the following sites:
-
Portal sites Find,
centralize and categorize Web-based SharePoint sites from across the
enterprise and integrate information from various systems into one solution.
-
Team sites Facilitate
team collaboration by offering pre-build and custom lists.
-
Meeting
workspace sites Help meeting organizers plan meetings, share
information with other attendees, use features to capture meeting
information, and then post notes and track action items.
-
Document
workspace sites Facilitate ad-hoc collaboration between
Office users by providing a central location to share and work on documents,
track document status, and to take advantage of Office integration with
Windows SharePoint Services Beta 2.
-
Personal sites Provide
personalized and customized information for you. On this site, called My
Site, you will find content targeted to you based on membership in a
particular audience. In addition, My Site provides quick access to things
you need to do your work. This may include links to documents, people, or
Web sites as well as personal alerts you create to track changes to content
within the portal and your organization. From My Site, you can also update
your public profile and share collections of links with other portal users.
You can create three types of sites
from the site directory on the portal site: a team site for team or project
collaboration, a document workspace site for focused document collaboration, or
a blank Web site. Your personal site is available directly from the portal home
page by clicking the My Site link. When you add an item to an
events list, you have the option of creating a meeting workspace site.
In addition to these templates, you can
create custom Web sites using a Web page editor compatible with Windows
SharePoint Services Beta 2 such as Microsoft FrontPage 11 (Beta).
Note You must be a member of
the Microsoft Windows NT SharePoint Administration security group to create
additional portal sites.
