Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server ”v2.0” Beta 2 Installation

Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server ”v2.0” requires Windows Server 2003. For the richest possible tour experience and to showcase as many of the new product features as possible, we recommend a client computer with Microsoft Office 2003 installed. To complete the tour, we recommend that you install and configure the products on two computers as shown in table x.   The goal of this tour is to allow a reviewer to quickly explore the powerful portal and collaborative features available in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server ”v2.0”.

The following installation steps install Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server ”v2.0”, Windows SharePoint Services, and the SQL run-time engine.

1.       Insert SharePoint Portal Server Beta 2 CD.

2.       On splash screen, select “Installation Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server “V2.0” Beta 2.

3.       On screen for Install Server Components for Microsoft SharePoint Portal server “v2.0” Beta 2, the following options should be enabled:

·         STS Required

·         SPS Required

·         SQL Server Desktop Engine – May be Required (MSDE)

If all options are okay, select “Next”.

4.       The following screens present the following warning:
”This pre-release version of SharePoint Portal Server Setup will add the Network Service account to the local administrators groups. This increases the security risk for this computer, therefore if you remove Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server “v2.0” Beta 2 from this computer, it is highly recommended that you remove this account from the local administrator group. To accept this change and continue, click OK, to reject this change and cancel setup, click Cancel. “
After you have read warning, click “OK”

5.       Click “Next” on first screen in the Welcome to the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server “v2.0” Beta 2 Setup Wizard. This wizard helps you install Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server “v2.0” Beta 2.

6.       Agree to end-user license agreement.

7.       The product key screen should have a product key already entered. Click “Next” to proceed.

8.       At Installation Type and File Location screen, select “Install with database engine” with the default file locations as shown in figure x:

·         Programs: c:\program files\sharepoint portal server

·         Data: c:\program files\sharepoint portal server\DATA

9.       Select “Next”.

10.   Select “OK” in the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server setup has completed successfully dialog.

11.   The SQL Desktop engine install will then start. After the install has completed (status screen will show all three components installed), click “Next”.

SharePoint Portal Server “v2.0” Setup Wizard

1.       Completing the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server “v2.0” Beta 2 Setup Wizard walks you through creating a new portal. Click “Finish”.

That look like :

2.       Configure Search Service Management:

·         E-mail address: Enter e-mail address for administrator (specify an e-mail address that external site administrators can contact if problems arise when SharePoint Portal server crawls their site).

·         Enter default content access account: enter user name, password and confirm password for account that you would like to use to index content. This account must have read access to the content being index.
Select “Save”.

3.       Create portal for Server revguide (or whatever your preferred portal name is) as shown in the following figure.

·         In the portal title box, type the title of the portal. The portal title appears at the top of most portal pages.

·         Portal language: English (United States) or other preferred language.

·         In the virtual server list, select the existing virtual server on this machine which will host the new portal. In most cases, the virtual server will be the default web site

·         In the URL address box, enter the URL address that visitors will use to connect to the portal. For example, for our portal the URL will be http://revguide

·         Specify the portal owner in the portal owner dialogue box. This person manages portal content and user access. In the account name box, type the account for the portal owner. In the e-mail address box, type the e-mail address for the portal manager.
Select “OK”

4.       In the Create Portal Confirmation for server, you will receive the following message:
”You have chose to create a new portal in a virtual server that is not empty. Any custom information that you’ve added to this virtual server since its creation will be made unavailable. Are you sure you want to continue? To continue creating the portal, click OK. To cancel creation of the portal, click Cancel. “
Click “OK”

5.       Portal creation completes and then opens admin page as shown in figure x http://localhost:8080/sps/portalcreatesuccess.aspx

6.       Add entry to hosts file entry in each computer that will be accessing the portal for URL name (e.g. http://revguide) and local IP address.
