Before Upgrading
Before you upgrade to Windows
SharePoint Services Beta 2, complete the following
steps:
- Back up your Beta 1 Web
sites. For backup and restore information, refer to
the
Administrator's Guide for Microsoft Windows
SharePoint Services Beta 2.
- Uninstall any Beta 1
Language Packs.
- Uninstall the Beta 1
Office Value Pack (STSTPKPL).
- Disable full-text
searching as described in the procedure below.
- Upgrade from Windows
Server 2003 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) to Windows
Server 2003 RC2 or later.
- Make sure your servers are
running.
- Download the
PreUpgrade.bat and
PostUpgrade.bat batch
files.
- Run the PreUpgrade.bat
file.
To Disable Full-text
Searching
- Click Start, point
to All Programs, point to Administrative
Tools, and then click SharePoint Central
Administration.
- On the SharePoint Central
Administration page, under Component
Configuration, click Configure full-text
search.
- Clear the Enable
full-text search and index component check box.
- Click OK.
To Run the PreUpgrade.bat
File
- Double-click
PreUpgrade.bat.
- When prompted to open or
save the file, click Save and save it to the
local drive of the computer you want to upgrade. If
you are upgrading a server farm, save the file to
the computer running Microsoft SQL Server™.
- Click Start, and
then click Run.
- In the Open box,
type PreUpgrade.bat Server_Name
Content_database_name and then click OK.
If you have multiple content databases, type each
database name, separated by a space. If you do not
know your server name or content database names,
follow the steps after this procedure to find them.
Notes:
- PreUpgrade.bat may take
some time to run.
- Running PreUpgrade.bat
will check in any files that are checked out.
To Find Your Server Name
- Click Start, point
to All Programs, point to Administrative
Tools, and then click SharePoint Central
Administration.
- On the SharePoint Central
Administration page, under Server Configuration,
click Set configuration database server. The
server name is displayed in the Database server
box.
To Find Your Content
Database Names
- Click Start, point
to All Programs, point to Administrative
Tools, and then click SharePoint Central
Administration.
- On the SharePoint Central
Administration page, click Configure virtual
server settings.
- On the Virtual Server List
page, click the virtual server name that you are
upgrading.
- On the Virtual Server
Settings page, under Virtual Server Management,
click Manage content databases. The names of
your content databases are listed under Database
Name.
Installation
To upgrade to Windows
SharePoint Services Beta 2, insert your Windows
SharePoint Services Beta 2 CD into the CD drive, and
then run the Setupsts.exe program. Do not uninstall the
previous version of Windows SharePoint Services.
Notes:
- Upgrading may take some
time.
- Upgrading will cause all
tildes (~) to be replaced with at signs (@) and all
ampersands (&) to be replaced with dollar signs ($)
in file names and site names.
After Upgrading
After you upgrade to Windows
SharePoint Services Beta 2, complete the following
steps:
- Install the Beta 2
Language Template Packs.
- Install the Beta 2 Office
Value Packs (STSTPKPL).
- After upgrade, if you
cannot access your virtual servers, for each virtual
server, enable all user rights.
- Run the upgrade operation
with the -forceupgrade parameter.
- Run the PostUpgrade.bat
file.
- If desired, enable the
ability to change the order of Link lists.
- If applicable, enable
full-text searching.
- Change the account used
for the SharePoint Timer Service.
If you have the Office Value
Pack installed and have Web sites based on the Great
Plains Template pack, those Web sites will not function
properly after upgrade. Also, you may encounter errors
in your upgrade log because these sites were not
upgraded. The error log may contain the error: "Couldn't
complete this action, please try again." Because the
Great Plains sites were not upgraded, ignore this error.
To Enable All User Rights
- Click Start, point
to All Programs, point to Administrative
Tools, and then click SharePoint Central
Administration.
- On the SharePoint Central
Administration page, click Configure virtual
server settings.
- On the Virtual Server List
page, click the virtual server name that you are
upgrading. In most cases, this is Default Web Site.
- On the Virtual Server
Settings page, under Security Settings, click
Manage user rights for virtual server.
- On the Manage User Rights
for Virtual Server page, select the Select All
check box.
- Click OK.
To Run the Upgrade Operation
- Click Start, and
then click Run.
- In the Open box,
type cmd, and then click OK.
- In the Command Prompt
window, change directories to \Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\bin.
- Run the following command:
stsadm.exe -o upgrade -forceupgrade
To Run the PostUpgrade.bat
File
- Double-click
PostUpgrade.bat.
- When prompted to open or
save the file, click Save and save it to the
local drive of the computer you want to upgrade. If
you are upgrading a server farm, save the file to
the computer running Microsoft SQL Server.
- Click Start, and
then click Run.
- In the Open box,
type PostUpgrade.bat Server_Name
Content_database_name and then click OK.
If you have multiple content databases, type each
database name, separated by a space.
Note: PostUpgrade.bat
may take some time to run.
To Enable Link List Ordering
- On your site, go to the
Link list.
- On the Actions
menu, click Modify settings and columns.
- Under Views, click
All Links.
- In the Sort
section, under Allow users to order items in this
view, click Yes.
- Click OK.
To Change the Account Used
for the SharePoint Timer Service
- Click Start, point
to All Programs, point to Administrative
Tools, and then click Services.
- In the list of services,
right-click SharePoint Timer Service, and
then click Properties.
- On the Log On tab,
in the This account box, type NT
Authority\Network Service. You can leave the
password boxes blank. Network Service is a special
Windows NT account, and the system will update this
information automatically.
- Click OK.
